Dream It Up All Over Again...

Steve and I were sitting in a seminar a while back and the presenter was talking about leadership and vision (that's the kind of seminars we go to) and he made a point something like:

"What's your end game? Where is this vision going? How will you know when you get there?"

And I asked Steve, "What's our end game?" And he kind of put his head in his hands and said something about driving him crazy with questions (hey, it's what I do...).

But later we talked about it. What's the endgame for this vision of ministry in the Brokenstraw Valley? Where is this going? How will we know when we get there?

And I've been thinking - I don't think there IS an end game. I don't think we will ever arrive.

Steve and I are already feeling the pull from the Holy Spirit to go off and "dream it up all over again." ***

Not that we're not heading in a direction, and not that we don't have some very tangible and specific goals - but we're in phase one, sort of - and we're looking ahead to phase two - not exactly remaking all this - but focusing it more clearly - like zooming in on Google Maps or something - we're at the one inch equals a mile resolution right now - and we need to zoom in a bit more - narrow and sharpen the focus, if you will.

So what will that look like? Dunno - we have to go off for a couple days soon and figure it out. We have so many questions that we just don't have answers for...And so much is going on already - yet there's so many ways that God is preparing us for more, too. It's a pretty amazing time and place to be in ministry.

*** A reference to a Bono quote about U2s follow-up to the biggest album of the 80s (the Joshua Tree) - New Years Eve, 1989, U2 is playing a concert in Dublin and at midnight Bono says that they have to go away and "dream it up all over again" - and the result was the amazing - but really going in a new direction - Acthtung Baby - my favorite band and oblique reference to a Mel Brooks movie - who could ask for more? Working on pulling up the quote...
